Most wedding checklists, wedding planners, and wedding reminders don’t mention your physical well-being, especially your skin fitness. Depending on your needs you may not need more than an extra layer of rouge, but for the rest of us everything from a spray tan to waxing could be beneficial.

Here is your Skin Fitness wedding day checklist.

Starting today: Avoid direct sunlight Protecting your skin from the sun is always important. Aside from the obvious skin cancer and wrinkles, too much sun can give you a weathered (literally) look that is hard to disguise with make-up. Too much sun could give you a sunburn, freckles, and an unwanted shine in your photos.

Facial: Schedule it four months out A break out could result from a facial, so you shouldn’t schedule your first facial a few days before your wedding. Instead, schedule one four months out and then again each month until the week before the wedding. This way your complexion will be breakout free, healthy, hydrated, and glowing.

Six weeks out: Waxing Most of us need a good wax every six weeks. Like a facial, don’t try it for the first time the week before the wedding. You could have a reaction to the products or you could be unhappy with the shape of your eyebrows.

Make-up: Trial, four weeks out To be sure the colors and style of your make-up works for you, choose a salon that will do a trial run one month before. Then you can photograph yourself and be sure you are happy with the application.

The tan: Spray it on three weeks out See avoiding direct sunlight above. Try spray tanning (don’t do the real thing), and try it a few weeks out so you can photograph yourself and be sure you like the way you look. It doesn’t work for everyone and so if you don’t like it, this will give the color enough time to fade. If you do like the way you look you will have time to reapply, but be sure it is four or five days before your rehearsal dinner. Any closer to the date and you run the risk of having the color come off on your clothes.

Your products: Nothing new two weeks out New products can cause your skin to react poorly so stick with the tried and true cosmetics and products. Now is not the time to try something new.

Sleep plenty: One week out Fatigue is obvious when you have bags under your eyes or colorless cheeks. Seven to eight hours of sleep each night is a critical part of your wedding day skin fitness.
