Choosing the Acne Treatment That’s Best

Various medical remedies are available for the treatment of acne. It is not unusual to find that the first remedy that a person tries does not work. For that reason, physicians may have to prescribe more than one treatment for a person before the condition is resolved.

Each case of acne is as different as each individual. For that reason, eradicating acne can be tricky. The only solution is to try various treatments until one is found that is successful. Since most of us are looking for quick results, it can be quite a vexing experience. This is a particular problem for those whose acne is resistant to treatment. Choosing a physician or dermatologist with a wealth of experience in the treatment of acne is the best course of action.

Some things should never be done when dealing with acne. Acne affected skin should never be scrubbed. Irritation and inflammation will result, making healing more difficult due to increased numbers of pimples.

The treatments you receive will always be determined by your symptoms. The focus of treatment might include cleansing skin pores, using antibiotics to destroy bacteria, using drugs such as Accutane to reduce the oiliness of skin, regulating sweat glands with hormones or oral birth control medication.

In most cases, a doctor will first recommend a topical cream. Like all acne treatments, topical creams will not cure acne, but will help manage the symptoms of it. In the event that topical creams alone are ineffective, doctors may combine the creams with an oral antibiotic.

Benzoyl peroxide is an effective ingredient in most topical creams, but it should only be used in small amounts. Using too much of it, or for too long, has been shown in studies to cause premature skin aging where previously this medication was thought completely safe.

It is not advisable to attempt to deal with acne on your own. Pimple removal should only be attempted by a doctor in a sterile environment. It is essential that you find a highly-skilled, well-experienced physician to assist you in your quest to banish acne.

Don’t get too anxious when results are not immediate. Even in the best of outcomes, acne will not just quickly vanish. In many cases your skin might get worse before the acne begins to clear, even when you have found the treatment that will ultimately work for you. Doctors generally recommend a minimum of four to six weeks of any treatment in order to begin seeing results. Don’t give up if the first type of treatment does not work, because it is normal to try several different treatments before the answer for your type of acne is found.
